DIRGE OF THE CRUEL

about

Circa 2009, Joey took one of our songs (Birth Of The Cruel), and slowed it down (maintaining pitch) til it became a 32 minute noise/drone sort of thing that was weirdly interesting to listen to. We all loved it but then quickly forgot that it even existed and it languished on a hard drive somewhere. In 2019, I found it whilst digging around for other stuff for the Sabatini archives, and sent it to our friend Scott over at Ancient Temple Recordings to see what further audio fuckery he might subject this piece to. Here are the results. Somehow, Scott deepened the valleys and sharpened rocky peaks in the nightmare landscape that it started out as. Ultimately, the world that this piece paints for you devolves into total sonic magma, which is very exciting to me. Thanks to Scott for this cool collaboration. It only took ten years to happen, but here you are.
